When a tooth is removed, depending on the history and the cause of tooth loss, there can be resorption of the ridge. Generally, the longer it has been since the tooth removal, the higher the chances of bone atrophy. Regeneration of the bone ridge becomes necessary for optimal placement of dental implants. There are multiple ways of ridge augmentation. One common method of treatment would be to use bone graft and collagen membrane as “Guided Bone Regeneration”. Ridge splitting and monocortical block grafts are two other methods of ridge augmentation. All these methods are very predictable and effective ways of treatment.
